14th Star and Crafted Exports

Crafted Exports, the leading international distributor for American craft beers and spirits, has partnered with Man in the Moon to bring the best Vermont has to offer to Sweden!

We at 14th Star Brewery are honored by the opportunity to represent Vermont craft beer in Sweden’s Stockholm Showcase! Fun fact: our brewery’s name ’14th Star’ is a reference to our pride as Vermonters and Vermont being admitted to the United States as the fourteenth state back in 1791. We are a small award-winning craft brewery out of St. Albans Vermont known for producing a wide variety of world-class brews with a mission to give back to local organizations and various charities. We believe a balance of history, innovation, and flavors can be found in every batch of 14th Star beer and hope the Sweden craft beer fans enjoy the diverse selection of brews we have provided. We look forward to continuing to work with Crafted Exports to provide 14th Star beer to our friends across the pond!

For all of January 2023, the following breweries will be showcased at Man in the Moon!

  • Long Trail Brewing Co
  • Otter Creek Brewing
  • The Shed Brewery
  • Burlington Beer Co
  • Foley Brothers Brewing
  • Zero Gravity Brewery
  • 14th Star Brewing Co
  • Whetstone Beer Co

Jake Collier, Sales Manager of Crafted Exports, comments: “We are once again starting off the year in celebration by partnering with Man in the Moon to showcase the best in beer from a new US state. This year we’ve chosen Vermont (the state where I grew up) and are beyond excited to share with the fans in Sweden some of the best beer the state has to offer!”

Commenting on the partnership, Daniel Rhawi, Owner of Man in the Moon, said: “We are thrilled to organize the eighth consecutive American Beer Fest at Man in the Moon. After doing California, Hawaii, Ohio, New York, Florida, Illinois and Massachusetts it’s time for the fantastic beer state of Vermont in January 2023. We would like to send huge thanks to Crafted Export for great partnership and also to all participant breweries. We really look forward to serving some of the best beers Vermont offers to the Swedish beer crowd.”

Wayfinding a New Path While Honoring Our Heritage

“In closing out our 10-Year Anniversary Celebration it is amazing to see how far we have come from renting a small garage on Lower Newton Street in St. Albans, building a brewhouse from old maple sugaring equipment, and throwing ourselves headlong into the business of craft brewing.

To say we are proud of what our team and community have accomplished in the last 10 years would be an understatement.”

– Steve Gagner and Matt Kehaya, 14th Star Founders

14th Star’s Hospitality Industry Appreciation Card

First and foremost, to all the servers, bartenders, dishwashers, front of house, cooks, kitchen teams, hosts, brewers, packaging teams and planners, we raise a pint. Along with all the others who make our industry roll, we raise a second.

Hospitality professionals, including makers of beverages, create a large ecosystem of passionate workers here locally around our brewery in St. Albans, and across the state, including every town and corner within our landscape. Making up one of the largest workforces, the hard-working folks that drive this industry alongside us are passionate, kind, patient and persistent to their craft.

One of the hardest hit industries during the COVID-19 pandemic, we still find ourselves dealing with a new landscape we all have to manage. Now with new challenges we all need to maneuver to keep our lives moving forward, along with our businesses. Heading in every day with the purpose to serve others requires selflessness, and commitment to create atmospheres and open spaces that are welcoming to all. To keep a brewery running during a time when the vast majority of our partners who operate within the hospitality industry were closed and unemployed was a moment in time we will always remember, more so for all our friends and family who had no place to go.

We kept brewing beer, and you all kept your heads up, and when the opportunity came back to get into the swing of things again, you all came back ready to serve again.

Our industry is critical to the state’s makeup, and all of us play an important part in keeping our economy rolling ahead, as the hospitality industry is the engine and main attraction to drive guests here to all pockets of our state. Although we live in smaller bubbles at times, our industry is vibrant and diverse.

Our new Industry Thank You Card is to remind you we all belong to something bigger, and that we care about your commitment to this industry. These perks are small in the grand scheme of life, but they will grow over time as we find ways to give back to you all. So, stay connected on ways we can gather and raise a pint alongside you in our Taproom.

Starting immediately on Tuesday nights from 4-10 find a fresh beer on feature waiting for you as a thank you, and consider visiting another place in town to spread the love. If you have any desire to collaborate within your establishment to celebrate fellow hospitality industry folks in your town, look no further as we would be honored to join you and support that.

These cards will grow, and so will our plan to use them for the better of our industry, to bring us all together, and to share some good energy across the state at bars and restaurants, and our space here in St. Albans.

The Batch is Back

It was a hard decision to retire our B-72 Hazy IPA from our core lineup this year, but we are pleased to announce the Batch is BACK for a limited time!

However, there is a catch — The future of B-72 hangs in the balance!

Depending on how quickly we sell out of this batch this may be your last chance to enjoy this classic and juicy Hazy IPA before it is retired for good.

Make your voice heard, help us sell out of B-72 cans in 30 days by picking up some 4-packs and tagging us on social media to #bringbackb72 in 2023!

Wayfinding A New Path

Over the past decade, 14th Star Brewing has contributed much to Vermont’s vibrant brewing culture, as well as to the overall northeast brewing scene.

I am proud of the brewing culture that exists here in the Green Mountain State. Having played numerous roles within this industry over the last two decades, I have seen firsthand how Vermonters and beyond respect those who roll up their sleeves every day, trying to find just the right combination of malts and hops in hopes of achieving the perfect brew to appease their faithful followers. That’s certainly something here at 14th Star that drives us, and will keep us motivated as we enter the next decade of business.

Ten years ago we introduced our company to the world (St. Albans) with a modern Hoppy Amber Ale, named Valor, and followed it with a cult classic double IPA, Tribute! Tribute is a true celebration of hops and it plays a major role in defining who we are as brewers. We rounded out our initial core styles with an Oatmeal Stout dubbed Maple Breakfast Stout – one of only a handful of full-time and easily accessible “dark beers” that sells just as well in the dog days of summer, as it does on the ski slopes in the middle of February. These three beers are enjoyed equally today as they were in the original brewery.

As we continue to celebrate our Decade of Dedication, we have been honoring the past, and the heritage of our early beginnings. And now, as we are looking ahead and steadily building for the future, we found ourselves with renewed energy as we engage in some wayfinding for the next round.

We continue to push forward with a focus on our craft as we begin to hit our new stride. Some of the early initiatives we tackled were rebranding and revamping the look and feel of our company, both in terms of our packaging as well as in our Taproom. We’re doubling down on innovation, our people, our consumers, the retail/hospitality sector, local partnerships, non-profits, wholesalers, and our hometown. And with this, we have the opportunity to refocus and modernize our core portfolio offerings.

Building off the foundations of Valor, Tribute, and Maple Breakfast Stout, we introduced Citranade to the major leagues. Our modern take on a New England Style Double IPA is already off to the races here in VT, and in most markets within our region. Quickly climbing the ranks as our soon-to-be best-seller. Next up to bat was CodeName, a fresh take on a hazy session, with all the big IPA flavors, and only clocking in at 4.8%. Debuted in early March at the Vermont Brewers Festival in Killington, we are now rounding first with cans and draft available across the state to solid reviews and feedback. To have that type of flavor with a lower alcohol percentage was needed, and the brewery team under Andrew, Kendall, and Sam delivered!

Now it’s time for Wayfinder, the aptly named last member of the “new” core to join the family and help lead the way for us in the next decade.

Wayfinder is the result of years of refining and perfecting our interpretation of a Czech-Style Pilsner, brewed right here in St. Albans, Vermont. Using our techniques, and skills to navigate in a busy world, we found ourselves wayfinding early on for the right balance within our core offerings. The destination was always to be balanced, but the road seemed unmarked in a busy market. We leaned in and trusted in our instincts, experience, and palates to shine a light on our new beers in 2022.

While we are excited to build upon new opportunities, the mission remains the same: being a craft brewery known for producing a wide variety of world-class ‘brews with a mission,’ raising awareness and supporting local organizations and various charities, all while allowing new exploration to inspire our future path.

Sincerely,
Ryan Chaffin
General Manager
